Hazel Campbell is a skilled writer. The narrative, plot and character development in all of these stories is extremely well-done. But she also brings the characters to life and gives them heart. These are stories of love, hope, promise and sexuality. My test of a good story is whether I miss the story when it has ended. At the end of each of Hazel's stories I wished there was more and that they would continue. Emancipation Park and the Santa Picture were my two favorites. If you like well-written stories with heart you'll love these stories by Hazel Campbell.Product details

I found this a really delightful set of love stories. They are easy to read and though short the endings did not leaving me wanting. I would recommend the book anyone who wants to read something relaxing and not too heavy.
Being a Jamaican and having framed my image of love through the behaviors of those around me, these stories reached me in a significant way. I'd like to use these stories in a group with mothers and their daughters who are trying to find a way to broach the topic of love, sex, and sexuality. Brilliantly written, with strong characters, and although short, well crafted. Kudos!!!!!My Darling YOU (love stories - sort of)
Each story is very well written and manages to touch the heart in a different way. They are all love stories in some sort of way and, though short, relationships between the characters are clearly defined. You come to "know" the characters quickly and love them, laugh with them and mourn with them.
My particular favourites are "The Santa Picture" and "Emancipation Park"

Hazel Campbell's `sort of' love stories are certainly original. Though short, they give food for thought and if read by mother and adolescent daughter can be a starting point for discussion. They could be the antidote for teenage girls addicted to romance novels, or whose mindset has been shaped by fairy stories, in which the helpless heroine is rescued by a knight in shining armour, who marries her and they live happily ever after. All the stories in `My Darling You' have universal themes, but those which are set in Jamaica give an authentic insight into the culture of that country.
The stories in My Darling You are engaging in their deft development of character, use of dialogue, and adept handling of plot. But there's more. They also give the reader a brief glimpse into the lives of characters who have been changed by love while skillfully exploring Jamaican attitudes toward sexuality ("Emancipation Park) and the influence of the church on the romantic decisions of its members ("First Love").
