Another great offering from Steven Lane Smith. After two fantastic books, I am among his fans who is wondering how many more great books he might have in his head and why he won't hurry and get them published!
Rio Feo - a forgotten outpost in remote New Mexico where people are watching their town shrivel up and blow away. Tommy Gunn arrives fresh from a whirlwind of crime, evasion, accidents and recovery to try to re-build his life as a basketball coach. Raised in Kentucky on basketball, Gunn has opted for shortcuts and ends up cutting himself short. But through it all, we just can't help but like this guy and want him to get his life on track. The characters are believable and so funny that you'll laugh out loud throughout this smart, funny and well-crafted tale. The story is filled to the brim with human frailty and the strength we find when we learn to give and receive love.
What a story! Don't miss this outstanding read!
This story starts out like a comic book. The hero is Tommy Gunn. That's right, Tommy Gunn. Tommy steals his own bribe money, which turns out to be counterfeit, from a couple of Keystone Cops mobsters. His dad is Pop Gunn. Are you kidding me? Smith builds his characters, and the story line, with a smirk. The unbelievable quirkiness of it all kept me coming back for more fun. But "Rio Feo" goes from a comic book to a light hearted story, to a very serious ending. After a life of looking for the easy, and I might add, funny, way out, Tommy grabs the mic in a high school auditorium. He has just seen his "comeback" fall short and yet, at that one moment, his life changes. From comic book to THEE story of human struggle, redemption and, indeed, salvation in a couple hundred pages. I finished the book, closed and thought about it in the new light, opened it and started reading again. It's that good.

Another fascinating book by Steven Lane Smith! The story keeps you interested from start to finish. Lots of action and surprising comedy throughout. I recommend it very highly!
great fun fast moving hysterically funny
What a great read. Lots of quirky characters filling an ever evolving story line. Smith does an excellent job of keeping you guessing on how this will all end. I hope he will continue to entertain us with his vivid imagination and excellent story telling writing.
